Sustainable and circular materials

In organising our events, we strive to use sustainable and circular materials. We are focused on reuse and new materials can me made from old materials.

Sustainable products in web shop

In our web shop for exhibitors and organizers, the more sustainable options for each choice are clearly indicated. For stand construction, the use of reusable materials instead of processed wood yields huge environmental benefits and reduces waste. For hospitality, they can select more plant-based alternatives. Or they can order furniture made of plastic salvaged from the Utrecht canals.

We will be adding more sustainable, preferably circular, product in our webshop, so we can reduce our carbon emission. We can reinforce our promise to be CO2 neutral by 2030. You can think of:

  • Sustainable furniture
  • LED lights
  • Circular carpet
  • Catering assortment (vegetarian choices)

Next to that we will be introducing participation packages. These consists of circular stand walls, LED light and circular carpet and furniture. With the sustainable options we want to inspire our exhibitors inspire to make sustainable choices. Only together we can make a difference.

Sustainable stand construction

Exhibitors can opt for sustainable stand construction at Jaarbeurs. The walls of the sustainable stand consist of three-quarters recycled material. The chairs and stools in the stand are made from recycled PET bottles and the tables are made from residual wood by a sheltered workshop. There is also LED lighting, a separate waste bin and circular exhibition carpet.

Circular carpeting

In early 2022, we switched to circular carpet flooring for our trade shows. In addition to stand construction and hospitality, trade show flooring is one of the biggest opportunities for us to become climate neutral. In fact, flooring is one of the largest sources of waste: every year, an estimated 100 million square meters of carpets are laid and disposed of worldwide. We have therefore started a sustainable cooperation with JMT Floorcoverings, supplier of the most durable type of exhibition flooring. This is a major step towards our ambition of becoming Europe’s most sustainable venue.

JMT Floorcoverings is an exclusive partner of Rewind, the most durable type of exhibition carpeting and the only Cradle to Cradle Certified Silver needle-felt exhibition carpeting in the world. The carpet is designed to be circular, using responsible raw materials and energy-efficient production methods. The main difference from previous generations of exhibition carpeting is that it no longer contains latex and consists of only one material; ensuring it can be recycled to a high standard. This greatly reduces the ecological footprint of an event, and therefore CO2 emission.
